The Paleozoic was nicknamed “The age of life”. In the beginning, most of the lifeforms were things like worms, trilobites, and sponges. It was warm for the most part, but gradually got colder as the era progressed. In the middle of the Cambrian period and towards the end there were two ice ages, which caused extinctions. The supercontinent Pannotia formed in the beginning of the era. Pannotia then split into smaller continents. At the end of the era the smaller continents came together and formed supercontinent Pangea, the most well-known supercontinent. Many major landforms formed in the Paleozoic era. Things like the Appalachian Mountains, the interior planes, and the limestone bluffs in present day mississippi were created. The first land plants and animals evolved during the Paleozoic. The Cambrian explosion also occurred. The Cambrian explosion was when hundreds of species formed at the same time. The era ended with the biggest mass extinction of all time, killing 95% of living things.
