The Cenozoic Era
The Cenozoic Era began 65 million years ago, and continues to the present. It is nicknamed “The Age of Mammals.” The climate was very diverse, and ranged from tropical and humid, to cold and dry, all depending on where you where. It was much warmer in early Cenozoic. The continents continued to drift farther and farther apart, until our modern continents took shape. Glaciers covered central North America in early Cenozoic. Major mountain ranges formed, such as the Alps, the Himalayas, and the Rocky Mountains. Humans evolved, and we caused the extinction of many large animals by hunting them and their prey. With many large predators gone, the smaller mammals flourished. Grass evolved to due to the forests thinning out. The Cenozoic is still happening today, and will likely continue until the next mass extinction.
